A time to wait
Bible insights on trusting God's timing

Two years in the writing, and a lifetime in conceiving, this debut book from Liz Morris was released Feb 1, published by the Bible Reading Fellowship - check out these extracts

In today's instant access culture, the idea of waiting seems irrelevant, outdated. People like fast cars, fast food, money at the touch of a button. Every part of life is caught up in the rush, with even Christians developing a taste for faith geared to quick answers, problem-solving, and miracles on demand.

So what happens when we find God asking us to wait? This book is for everybody who is trying to live according to God's timing - perhaps reluctantly! It is for those who fear that God has even forgotten them, despite the promises he gives through the Bible.

Reflecting on some familiar Bible stories and characters, Liz Morris sets out some of the lessons that can help us along the way.

Liz launched the book at an event in Beckenham on Saturday 10 March 2001 - thanks to those who came. She also was interviewed recently on Premier Radio, and did brilliantly!

From the foreword, by Faith Forster:

"Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. Yet when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was two more days ..." (John 11 v 5-6) If only God didn't love us so much! How can we read those verses from John's gospel without, in our hearts, screaming a protest at Jesus' refusal to comply with their plea to come at once! We all hate waiting, seeing it as a complete waste of time and harbouring suspicions of indifference on God's part. Yet learning to wait is part of the process of growing to maturity, as Rudyard Kipling suggests in his poem, "If" - "If you can wait and not grow tired of waiting" ... "You'll be a man, my son".

God is so determined to mature us that He will at times be silent or still when we want Him to speak or act. He in turn is waiting for us to grow - in grace, in prayer, in love, in trusting Him even when, as with Job, all the powers of hell are allowed to attack and oppose us. I say again, if only God didn't love us so much!

For some years now I have watched Liz and David Lyle Morris lay hold of God in good times and bad. The contents of this book have been drawn from their experiences as well as from their study of the Word of God. We are indebted to Liz for sharing her insights with such wisdom and love.
